Season Ticket Holders Entered Into Draw For 500 All Ireland Final Tickets

Season Ticket Holders Entered Into Draw For 500 All Ireland Final Tickets

Season Ticket Holders Entered Into Draw For 500 All Ireland Final Tickets

When the pandemic took hold last year, life as we knew it changed  forever. Season tickets for the 2020 season were cancelled as were many matches. The 2021 season tickets were not renewed, as at the time, nobody knew if the league and championship would go ahead. Thankfully, things are beginning to improve and we are getting back to some sort of “normal”.

As matches were allowed to be played, firstly, behind closed doors and then with limited numbers of spectators, the 2021 league and championship went ahead in a much changed format.

When Mayo beat Dublin in the All Ireland semi final and qualified for the All Ireland final yet again, the issue of tickets or more precisely the lack of tickets began to pose a problem. The All Ireland final, due to public health restrictions, could only be played in front of 40,000 spectators. A much reduced number from the maximum capacity of Croke Parks 82,300 stadium.

Cork and Limerick were meeting in the Hurling final and they faced the same predicament with reduced capacity. However, Cork decided to give the option to purchase a hurling final ticket, to both their hurling and football season ticket holders, “as a goodwill gesture”. Between hurling and football, Cork have just over 1000 season ticket holders, so it was a little easier for the Cork county board to offer their season ticket holders the option to purchase a final ticket. This set a precedent.

Initially Mayo county board said it would not be possible to accommodate Mayo season ticket holders in any way. Dermot Butler, speaking to the Mayo News stated, “There will be no Cairde Mhaigheo ticket allocation for the final” and went on to say “its not our decision, that whole season ticket decision was made by Croke Park at the beginning of the season”.

Dermot Butler speaking to the Mayo News on Monday 16th August.

We got in touch with the Tommy Marren show on Midwest radio to highlight the situation and to see if anything could be done. There was a huge response from Mayo season ticket holders. Everyone knew it was a very difficult situation for all sides, but loyal season ticket holders just couldn’t be brushed aside so easily. Something needed to be done.

Hundreds of texts and emails were sent into the Tommy Marren show from Mayo season ticket holders. Below is a sample of some of them, which Tommy read out.

Mayo GAA were to get back to Midwest when they had been in touch with Croke Park to see if anything could be done. We were hopeful that the 40K capacity might be raised and that would have benefited everyone.

On Friday the 27th of August Croke Park announced that they are making 500 tickets available for season ticket holders through a draw. Juvenile ticket holders will not be included in this draw. This means out of the 3622 Mayo season tickets approximately 3000 will be eligible for the draw.

The random draw will be conducted by officials in Croke Park via the season ticket database and is expected to be completed by next Wednesday, September 1. Those season ticket holders who are successful in securing the option of a ticket will be communicated with by email.

Mayo GAA Secretary Dermot Butler speaking to Midwest radio about the draw.

A statement from Mayo GAA announcing the draw said that it would be impossible to allocate all Season Ticket holders a ticket for the final as this would “reduce the current club allocations by another 55% on top of the reductions enforced by the reduced capacity.”

“Mayo GAA do recognise and appreciate the scale of support within the Season Ticket group. While the current public health situation has made it very difficult to accommodate all fans wishing to attend the All-Ireland Final, we are making every effort to spread the base of support to all who have supported Mayo in huge numbers over the years.”

Under the circumstances this is the best outcome that could be expected. While not perfect, we have to accept that everyone cannot be accommodated with tickets for the final. At least 1 in 6 season ticket holders will be in with a chance of getting an All Ireland Final ticket.

If you are lucky enough to get your hands on a golden ticket, you can check out the Croke Park seating plan here.

2016 Mayo GAA Season Ticket Renewals Now Open

2016 Mayo GAA season ticketThe 2016 Mayo GAA season ticket is now open for renewal. Unfortunately there is no “Early Bird” renewal price of €75 & €85 as there was in 2013 and 2014. The 2016 Mayo GAA season ticket for an adult increases from €85 to €99. Juvenile tickets have also doubled in price from €10 to €20 this year. However the GAA seems to think that the 2016 Season Ticket is “Great Value” this year for loyal GAA supporters! (Hill 16 Dublin GAA season tickets however remain the same price this year at €165)

If there is anyone thinking of not renewing your season tickets for 2016, we’d recommend that you do, as there will not be any more Mayo GAA season tickets on sale in the future. You can renew them for someone that is looking to get a season ticket, you can add their payment card details instead of your own on the season ticket account. Any season tickets not being renewed are not being released for sale again.  Edit: The GAA season ticket office have confirmed today that “If any Mayo GAA  season tickets are not renewed before the 30th of November, they will be released for sale to the Mayo season ticket waiting list”.

Delivery arrangements for season tickets have also been confirmed today (15th OCT). “Delivery arrangements are as follows: All purchases prior to midnight on Friday 25th November 2015 will be posted on Friday 4th December 2015. Purchases after Friday 25th November will be produced and dispatched in January 2016.”

Mayo GAA lotto aims to raise funds exclusively for player welfare

Mayo GAA lotto aims to raise funds exclusively for player welfare

For a while now, the topic of fundraising for Mayo GAA and in particular for the teams (as opposed to Servicing The Debt) has been a hot topic among supporters. Running a county team is not cheap, and in this era of near-professionalism it costs upwards of a whopping €10k per week to cover the costs of training the Mayo senior team (think gear, food, equipment, expenses, medical equipment etc.).  It’s fair to say however that there is ample goodwill out there when it comes to supporting both our footballers and hurlers in their pursuit of success.

The Mayo Teams Training & Welfare Lotto

Using Smart Lotto (a new, Mayo-based company offering online lotto services to GAA clubs),  a number of the Mayo players in the last few days have launched The Mayo Teams Training & Welfare Lotto, a weekly online lotto game that can be played directly from the Mayo GAA website. The minimum play is €2, and you can play multiple lines or for a number of weeks at a time. All funds raised go directly towards the training and welfare of the Mayo footballers and hurlers, from minor level upwards, and will not be channelled towards either running Mayo GAA itself or paying the MacHale Park debt. We don’t have a breakdown of how this will be divided out by code or by level, or whether it will affect the funding structure already in place, but but will keep you posted with extra information as soon as it becomes available. Obviously, our debt to Croke Park still needs to be serviced, but it appears that the revised terms of the recent deal allow ringfencing of revenue streams for player welfare where they didn’t seem to previously, and this can only be a welcome development.

So for anyone who is anxious to support the Mayo GAA effort on a financial level, you now have another means of contributing, knowing that your money will be going to help the lads on the pitch access the best possible resources in their quests.

To play the Mayo GAA Lotto, log onto the Mayo GAA website, and scroll down to the Lotto widget on the left hand side. And who knows, you might even win a few quid!

Season Tickets

As you probably already know, being a season ticket holder has many advantages. It allows you free entry into any league match (code-specific). Season tickets also allow you free entry into the All-Ireland Club Finals between Corofin from Co. Galway and Slaughtneil from Co Derry on St. Patrick’s Day, (throw in is now 4pm). Corofin are managed by Mayo & Crossmolina’s own Stephen Rochford. We know that any Mayo vs Galway tie is sometimes the be all and end all between rivals, but on this occasion we hope all Mayo folk will give our Galway neighbours, and Connacht representatives, their support on St Patrick’s Day.

Mayo Club 51 are putting the call out to all season ticket holders if you are not using your tickets for the final, to help out Corofin supporters. First of all you will need to log-in to your season ticket account and go to “Special Purchases” to request your (free) tickets. You can e-mail tickets directly to the Corofin P.R.O. John Fahey,  pro.corofin.galway [at] gaa.ie.
