About Club ’51 – an unofficial Mayo supporters’ club

Who are we? An Unofficial Mayo Supporters’ Club, that’s who!

About Club 51 What is Mayo Club 51 all about? Club ’51 is an unofficial Mayo supporters’ club, formed in October 2013 by a small group of like-minded Mayo GAA fans (fanatics, even). In the aftermath of the All-Ireland defeat to Dublin, as the words of Andy “We’ll be back” Moranator rang in our ears, a few of the eternally optimistic decided to get together and help rally the troops for another go in 2014.

Wiki Article

Club ’51 is an informal, unofficial, 100% independent Mayo supporters’ club.

What do we do?

Our aim is simple: to encourage Mayo GAA supporters near and far to come together and do our bit off the pitch to the same high standards as the players do on it. We plan to do this by adding colour and atmosphere to the games through flags and displays, by making some noise and getting behind our team. Put simply, we want to be the 16th man, and to have a bit of craic while we’re at it.

We do other things too – we organise meet-ups before away games, lifts to games, competitions, we share news and information and we’re currently in the process of planning our first charity event.

Sounds great – how can I get involved?

Anyone can get involved with Club ’51. There is no formal membership process and everything is run on a voluntary basis. Everyone is welcome!

  • Subscribe to our updates: Enter your email address in the box on the right. This ensures you’ll get an email each time a new post goes up, so you’ll never miss a thing.
  • Register with the site if you want to leave comments and view restricted areas such as the match ticket swap/share area, and car pooling posts.
  • Bring a flag to the games: We’ve combined forces with the Sea of Green and Red campaign in an effort to turn every match day venue into a green and red fortress, regardless of where we’re playing.
  • Come to our pre-match meet-ups – details will be on site the week of the game and they’re a great way of meeting fellow supporters
  • Stand with us and help us cheer on our team, loud and proud at the arranged meeting points on match days (or join one of our seating groups). And remember it’s when things aren’t going to plan that teams need supporters to get behind them the most.
  • Contribute towards our displays. You might have seen our flags and banners in MacHale Park, Croke Park or even Gaelic Park – they have all been funded by fellow supporters, and we hope they will become a feature of games for years to come. If you’d like to make a contribution, drop us a line on our contact page. (In the interests of transparency, we keep records of all donations and receipts, and all Club ’51 members who have contributed and registered with the site can view our Accounts page in full detail.)
  • Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and join the conversations.
  • Write for the site: We love having guest contributors to talk about Mayo GAA from a supporter’s point of view. Even if you’ve never put pen to paper before but fancy writing a few words or sharing a story, get in touch!

Our Ethos

The ethos of Club ’51 is a positive one, based primarily on respect and support for our own teams. Those partaking in Club ’51 activities are therefore asked to respect and value our players, management, referees, officials, sponsors and fellow supporters.

Participants are asked to abide by the following principles:

  • Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour – refrain from using foul or abusive language towards players, referees or officials
  • Refrain from the use of offensive or derogatory songs, chants, flags or banners at games
  • Appreciate and applaud the efforts and performance of players – on both teams
  • Condemn the use of violence in any form – by supporters, players, or officials
  • Show respect and regard to our opponents, both at home and away, and uphold the principles of fair play and respect.

We welcome all feedback and participation, so if you have any ideas or suggestions you’d like to contribute, drop us a line over on the contact page – we’d love to hear from you.
