As a little something to brighten up the dark and rainy evenings as we count down the days to the FBD League, it’s competition time in Club ’51 HQ. The crew have teamed up with the fantastic team over at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris to offer you the chance of winning a one-night stay with breakfast in Mayo’s finest luxury 4 star hotel!

Known by many as the “Nashville of the West”  due to its hectic entertainment and social dancing programme, the McWilliam Park is conveniently located on the N17 main route Sligo – Galway in Claremorris, Co Mayo, close to  Westport, Castlebar, and Ballina, and is just 15 minutes from the Royal Theatre, Castlebar. They have the works down there – sumptuous rooms, a leisure centre with pool, complimentary wifi and free parking and lovely friendly staff to pamper you.

Primary Schools Competition Winner

At the beginning of June the crew here at Mayo Club 51 decided to hold a primary schools competition for our younger ’51er’s. One of our main aims is bring as much colour as we can on match day. Our collection of flags is constantly growing and we’re always on the look out for new ideas!

After much deliberation, heated discussion and many cups of tea and even an existential crisis, we’ve managed to pick a winner! We were delighted at the response to our call for entries. The creativity and quality on display made the task of whittling it down to the final few very difficult! We’re going to try and find a way to show off all of our favourite entries online so keep an eye out here. We’d like to thank those at Castlebar Cycle Store and T-Rex Clothing for sponsoring the great prizes but most importantly, we’d like to thank all the schools who took part and especially all the kids for their fantastic efforts!

Right, no more messing around! The winner of the Mayo Club ’51 Flag design competition and a brand new (green and red!) BMX is Chloe Courell of St. Angela’s National School, Castlebar. We loved the clarity and bold form of Chloe’s design and we think it’s going to look cracking flying on a flag at this Sunday’s Connacht final and hopefully much further into the summer!

Club ’51 Quiz Night details

On Thursday 10th July, just 3 days before our lads attempt to make history with a 4th Connacht title on the trot against the auld enemy, we’ll be hosting a charity quiz night in aid of a couple of very worthy causes. Our very first quiz night will be taking place in Coady’s Bar, Linenhall Street, Castlebar at 8pm.

On the night, we’ll be contributing to two great charities: Raynaud’s and Scleroderma Ireland and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. We will be posting up more info on both of these charities over the next couple of days but in the meantime you can find out all you need to know on the two links above.

We’ll be hoping to have some fun on the night too. Coady’s, being the great hosts they are, will be providing finger food, and will also be linking their TVs to our YouTube account so we can all reminisce over good times gone by by watching our classic videos, courtesy of the very patient Ronan McHale (or MacHale as he prefers).

The price of entry is €40 per table (team of 4) and we’ll be giving out a variety of great quiz and raffle prizes on the night.
